One of the museum’s skylit rooms, adjacent to the main hall, is divided into two spaces, following the outline of the central skylight above. This simultaneously interrupts the passage through the exhibition rooms; each of the two spaces can now only be accessed from a single direction: one at the beginning and the other at the end of the exhibition tour. From the main hall you first enter a room where the white walls extend right up to the glass of the skylight. High up on the side walls are small openings with a suggestion of darkness beyond them. Going back through the other rooms of the Kunsthalle and following the course of the exhibition, you end up in another white room; a corridor-like, symmetrical U-shaped space illuminated by small openings high up on the walls. This space ends abruptly to the rear of the entrance which previously led into the first room. You are now in fact standing behind the walls of the skylit room; the window openings are the same ones you saw before – in the first room they opened onto darkness, now they illuminate this closed-off space.
