A small room is constructed inside the art museum’s collection of historic interiors – a fragment of modern architecture, its low ceiling cuts horizontally across the covered windows of the exhibition space so that the lower half of the windows are visible in the built-in room.
On entering the space, the viewer is confronted with a large display window and doorway finished on both sides. The window opening is filled entirely by a transparent photograph of the interior of a storefront in which the facing cityscape is reflected. The pane of glass holding the transparency is built into the walls, its apparently massive frame forming part of the image.
Once inside the construction, the viewer can look back through the window image. The reflection of the interior space of the construction and that in the photograph are now superimposed with the view into the space from which the viewer has just come.
